TALK - "Paradoxes Untamed: a Hobbesian Headache?" by Dr. Christopher Ray 1.45pm for 2pm at the United Reformed Church

Thomas Hobbes is known as the father of modern political thinking and philosophy. He was born in a cottage, here in Malmesbury a mere stones throw away from where this talk is being given nearly 450 years after his birth.

Dr. Christopher Ray will be explaining some of Thomas’s ideas and concepts which continue to influence our world today.

Please arrive from 1.45pm for the illustrated talk which will start at 2pm in the United Reformed Church, just off the Horsefair in Malmesbury SN16 9BJ. Tickets are £5 per person and will be available to purchase shortly via Malmesbury Town Council’s website and at the counter of the Tourist Information Centre there - more details to follow.

You might want to come along a little earlier or stay later, to see an archaeological dig in the URC front garden (site of the Hobbes family home), which is also happening over the weekend. In addition, there will be free fun activities for children in the Church itself, and light refreshments will be available to purchase. Toilets and shelter (in case of inclement weather) will also be available. See also Guided Walks (approx 30 mins) starting and ending at the URC too.

Please note that parking is limited in the residential area where the Church is located, so if you are visiting, we suggest you consider parking either in the Cross Hayes Car Park SN16 9BZ in the centre of Malmesbury or in the Long Stay Car Park SN16 9JT. Both are about a 10 minute walk to the Church.
